Hi melanie 865 lighting circuits pre 1966 did not have earth or circuit protective conductor no metal light switches or light fittings can be fitted unless marked as class 2 which is double insulated upgrade of the wiring would be twin and earth from the consumer unit to each ceiling rose and each switch this would be like a rewire for the lighting circuits lifting floorboards and chasing down.
A light fitting installed in the 1960 s with no earth is possibly acceptable.
These wall lights are needed when a property does not have an adequate earth cable.

A light fitting installed with no earth in 2020 is never going to be acceptable even a plastic class 2 fitting needs an earth point.

I have purchased the bg 6 pendent set and thought we could use this as it was plastic and therefore assumed it was ok to use without an earth wire.
