Here s what to do.
If the door binds on the knob side the hinges are too shallow.
Using a pencil or chalk mark the edge to show exactly where you have to work.
Open and close the door several times to determine where it s rubbing.
Look for signs of abrasion on the edge of the door and for uneven gaps between the jamb and the door.
If this doesn t work try tightening the screws into the hinges at the bottom.
Additionally some doors may expand contract or become warped due to temperature or moisture.
Hollow core doors can become permanently warped or twisted over time as a house sinks and compresses them making their defects nearly impossible to correct.
If the door binds on the hinge side the hinges may be too deep.
Tighten the mounting screws on the hinges while your friend holds the door straight.
Put the screwdriver under the hinge pins and tap the bottom with the hammer.
Adding shims to stripped hinge screw holes.
If the hinge screws become loose they can move around and cause the door itself to move slightly out of place.
If there s a wide gap on the hinge side of the door when it s closed or the door won t close all the way focus on adjusting this screw.
For the door above try simply loosening the screws from the top hinge 1 4 turn or more.
The hinges and door should both be level and the door should shut.
Tighten it turn clockwise to pull the door closer to the cabinet frame and close the hinge side gap.
If you ve checked the hinges latch and fit but the door still doesn t close properly consider installing a new door.
Open and close the door to find the problem.
If it s still not fixed you ll need to try shimming the door hinge.
